Swiss Mocha Smoothie

What is a Swiss Mocha?

The first time I had a true Swiss Mocha was in Iceland. It warmed my soul and defrosted my hands from the freezing icy weather. The marriage of hot cocoa with espresso is irresistible and delicious! I new when I returned home that I needed to recreate this simplistic drink into a healthy breakfast meal. Now I can have a nutritious Swiss Mochas Smoothie when ever I want.

Why you will love my Swiss Mocha Smoothie

  • It taste like an indulgent treat
  • Has high protein
  • Is full of natural caffeine from organic coffee beans
  • Contains superfoods like ashwagandha, Lino’s mane powder, turmeric and cinnamon
  • Full of potassium from the bananas
  • Sweetened with dates that are high in selenium, copper, potassium, and magnesium.

Ingredients to Make the best Swiss Mocha Smoothie

Protein Powder: Use a good quality protein powder. One that is free of artificial ingredients and carrageenan. Those ingredient can irritate the gut. I like using Just Ingredients protein powder. It’s made with New Zealand Grass Fed Whey (free of carrageenan) as well as pea protein, chia seed protein, pumpkin seed protein, coconut milk protein and collagen to make it easier on digestion. I love that it is sweetened with monk fruit and has sea salt for added electrolytes. The Just Plain flavor is my favorite for smoothies and baking. Use my code “cookieeclub” to save 10 percent off of your order every time.

Milk: I like using grass fed A2 whole milk but you can use whatever milk you like. If using a dairy free option just check the ingredients. A lot of them contain gums and other preservatives that aren’t good for the body. Elmhurst or Malk are good dairy free milk brands made with nuts, water and sea salt. You can also blend your own. Here’s a great recipe by Downshifology for homemade almond milk.

Coffee Beans: If you don’t like the jitters after drinking a cup of coffee and the immediate crash that follows, stay away from coffee beans that don’t specify that they are free of mold, mycotoxins and pesticides. Those elements are typical the culprit of coffee, jitter crashes. I buy and will only ever use Purity organic Coffee Beans. They have the best taste, flavor and are rich in antioxidants. *If you don’t like coffee replace the espresso with milk or filtered water.

Superfood Hot Cocoa: I like using Just Ingredients Superfood Hot Cocoa Mix because of the anti inflammatory ingredients but you can use 2 teaspoons of regular organic cocoa powder too. Either way it will be delicious and nutrient packed.

Ingredients

Swiss Mocha Smoothie

Homemade Whipped Cream

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1-2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

Swiss Mocha Smoothie

  • Begin by prepping your espresso maker. Follow your manufacture directions. I normally grind 4 tablespoon of beans and fill my 10 oz espresso maker to the fill line with water. Each machine will be different though.
  • After brewing the espresso pour 1/2 cup of coffee into the blender and add the two, pitted medjool dates. Let them soak for 5 minutes to softened.
  • Then add in the milk, almond butter, protein powder, superfood hot cocoa, bananas and a handful of ice to the blender. Blend on medium to high speed until creamy. About 2 minutes.
  • Divide the Swiss mocha smoothie into two 16 oz cups and top with homemade whipped cream and dusting of organic cocoa powder.

Homemade Whipped Cream

  • Start by pouring 1 cup of heavy cream into the clean whip cream dispenser along with the pure maple syrup and vanilla extract. Screw the lid on and shake the dispenser a few times to mix the ingredients.
  • Now insert the NO2 charger per manufacture directions. Afterwards shake the dispenser about 10 times before using.
  • Store leftover whip cream into the fridge for up to 7 days.
