Ingredient Notes to make the best Chocolate Chip Cookies
- I highly recommend using quality ingredients when making any baked good. The kind of flour, butter, sugar, vanilla and chocolate chips used in the recipe will greatly determine the flavor and texture of the cookie. In the recipe card I have linked all the ingredients (in blue) I use when making these cookies. The final product yields buttery chocolate chip cookies that have chewy middles and crunchy edges. It’s the best knowing exactly what you are baking with. Especially since most cookies from the store or bakery likely contain artificial flavors, preservatives, oils and colors to keep them on the shelf longer. With are hard on our bodies and stomaches to digest.
Recipe Variations for my Halloween Chocolate Chip Spider Cookies
- Swap out 1/4 cup of flour with cocoa powder to make double chocolate spider cookies.
- Use white chocolate chips instead of dark chocolate chips. I like Guittard white chocolate baking chips.
- Omit piping on chocolate spider legs and bake the cookies into the most perfect chocolate chocolate chip cookies that you can eat all year round.

Expert tips to make the best cookies
- Always read a recipe from start to finish before making so you don’t miss anything.
- Then measure out the ingredients before starting to bake so you don’t forget an ingredient.
- Make sure ingredients that need to be room temperature are ready to use. This step will ensure the ingredients rise properly while baking.
- If you want extra thick and chewy cookies chill the cookie dough in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes. Just wrap the bowl with plastic wrap before placing the dough into the fridge to prevent the dough from drying out. This step allows the butter to get cold again so it does not spill out while baking. It also gives the ingredients a second to marinate together so the flavors are more intense when eating.
- Don’t forget the salt. Good salt like Redmond Real Salt will bring out the flavors of the other ingredients. Use my code “cookieeclub” to save on any orders. It’s the only salt I bake with, cook with and put into my water every morning for easy electrolytes.
